"ReadWriteThink is a vital resource in my university teaching. It is second nature for new teachers to turn to the Web for lesson ideas, so they need a dependable source for quality lessons."
Lucy K. Spence teaches literacy instruction and assessment courses at the University of South Carolina. Originally from Arizona, Lucy has many years of experience teaching English learners in elementary schools. These experiences are woven into her teaching and professional development work.
Her research interests include assessing the writing of English learners. She is currently studying how young children's writing develops through multiple languages and literacies.
Lucy is a web editor for the NCTE's Whole Language Umbrella. She is a member of NCTE, IRA, and the National Association of Bilingual Educators (NABE).
