Making a Stapleless BookReadWriteThink videos demonstrate online interactive tools as well as share content and strategies you can use with children to have fun while enhancing learning.

Making a Stapleless Book
The Stapleless Book is designed to allow users to create with an eight-page book simply by folding and cutting. No tape or staples are required.

Children can use the Stapleless Book Tool for taking notes while reading, making picture books, collecting facts, or creating vocabulary booklets. They can use the Stapleless Book Planning Sheet to draft and revise their work before creating and printing their final stapleless books. The Stapleless Book Tool Tip Sheet gives more information and ideas for using the tool.

In this video, you’ll see an adult and child start with a printed sheet of paper and end with an eight-page book. They’ll follow these simple steps:

  1. Fold the printed page in half length-wise, using the dotted line as a guide.
  2. Now fold the long, narrow page in half the other way.
  3. Fold the paper in half the same way again.
  4. Unfold the paper and make a cut along the dotted line.
  5. Fold the paper as you did in the first step.
  6. Push the paper toward the center to form a diamond; continue pushing until the paper will lay flat.
  7. Fold the paper to make the title page on front and the back cover on the back.
  8. You’ve made a Stapleless Book!
