Character Role: Conductor

You are in charge of keeping a station; that is, a place where runaways can safely spend the night on their way north to Canada. You live along the route known as the Underground Railroad. You may live in one of the southern states or further north. You may even live close to Canada. Like a Quaker, you too may be a farmer or a skilled laborer working in the city. Since the passing of the Fugitive Slave Bill, your job has become even more dangerous. If caught you can be sent to jail and all your property would be sold. You remain a Conductor because you know slavery is wrong and you are determined to help slaves earn their freedom.
