Activity Description

Who were the Dinosaur Detectives? This book takes children back in time to meet real people who were among the first to prove that dinosaurs lived on Earth. Their stories include new words, such as “paleontology” and “stegosaurus,” which can be used to solve and create dinosaur crossword puzzles.

Why This Is Helpful

Crossword puzzles can’t be solved unless the child knows what words mean and how to spell them. It also helps to know something about the topic—in this case, dinosaurs. After solving one puzzle, children can deepen their knowledge by trying to build a crossword puzzle of their own.
