Note Writing at a Message Center
|Grades||K – 2|
|Activity Time||5 to 10 minutes a day|
In this activity, children write short everyday notes, to remind, plan, request, or compliment others. Note writing provides the natural opportunities for meaningful writing and lots of practice in reading texts.
Everyday notes, lists, and the short correspondence that adults take for granted provide terrific reading and writing opportunities for children. The purpose and audience for these notes are easily understood, even for the earliest readers and writers. The writing format is short, and results of the writing are frequently concrete and immediate.
This activity was modified from the ReadWriteThink lesson plan "Note Writing in the Primary Classroom."
