Rhyme Time With Madeline
Madeline is the main character in a story filled with rhyming pairs—vines and lines, bed and red, hours and flowers. In this activity, children can come up with their own rhyming words. Using the interactive Construct-a-Word tool, children combine beginning letters and word endings to create dozens of rhymes.
When words rhyme in a story, they provide a natural rhythm and teach children something about how words are made. Words that rhyme often share the same word ending but have different beginning letters (and sounds). Reading rhyming stories give children a chance to hear and see how that works.
