School Day Extension

Activity Description
Using materials from the child's school day, words are entered in a new word bank in the Word Mover mobile app. The child then uses those words to create a story or poem that teaches a family member or caregiver about the concept. By customizing a background, colors, font, and layout of the poem, the child can create a final product that will help the adult better understand the concept, thus “extending” the child’s school day.
Why This Is Helpful
When children have a chance to “teach” a concept, they more fully understand the information they learned. By taking materials that a child used during his or her school day and examining it closely for vocabulary and then using those words to create a poem or story, he or she is very likely to remember and understand the information.
