Activity
Write Captivating Captions
![]()

Activity Description
Children love to look at pictures of themselves. They also enjoy flipping through magazines and looking at the captioned pictures and ads. Help a child interpret photos and understand the story that an illustration can tell by having them write their own captions for family photos or magazine images.
Why This Is Helpful
This activity highlights the importance of “reading” illustrations and using them to improve understanding of a story instead of just looking at them. It’s also a fun and easy way to get children excited about writing and to work on their use of descriptive words.
