Character Role: Plantation owner

Typically male, you have inherited your plantation from your father. Your plantation is not in the "deep south," but rather in Maryland or Virginia. You have had many problems with runaway slaves because you are so close to the northern free states. You have been educated at the finest schools and are skilled in many areas, including riding, hunting, and business. You have grown up on the plantation, and slavery is a part of your life. To you, slaves are property to be bought and sold. Yet, strangely enough, you also view them the way a father would his children. You strongly believe that you are doing the best for blacks by keeping them as slaves. Without you, they would not be able to survive and would revert to their natural state of laziness.
