Helpful Information About Measurement, Multiplication, and Subtraction

Looking for a little help solving these math word problems? The link below should help. With a little work you can break the math curse and solve the puzzle.

Visit A Maths Dictionary for Kids* for information about math terms and measurements. The following guidelines will help you find the information you need:

Think about what type of problem you are trying to answer. Does it have to do with time? With measurement? With addition? With subtraction?

If, for example, you are looking for the number of hours in a day, click the letters Tt on the left-hand side of the screen. Then click on the word time. You'll find facts about time and can play the What Time Is It game.

Here are a few more hints:

  • Wondering how long something is? Click Ll and select length.
  • Trying to figure out how many inches are in a foot? Click Ii and click on inch.
  • Want to sort out those pesky pints? Click Pp and check out pint.

And if you can't get enough of those fabulous word problems, check out the book Math Curse by Jon Sciesza (Viking, 1995).

*If you are from the United States or Canada, you may not know that they say maths instead of math in English-speaking countries outside of North America. Maybe we should just all call it arithmetic!
