Kathy is currently an educational consultant and member of the NCTE Consulting Network. She spent 27 years as a classroom teacher and librarian in the Pacific northwest. Kathy served as the elementary representative-at-large on the NCTE executive board from 1997-1999 and, as a member of the NCTE staff, served as Associate Executive Director for Elementary and Middle Levels from 1999"“2005.

Kathy has authored chapters in Creating Classrooms for Authors and Inquirers (Heinemann, 1995) and Beyond Reading and Writing: Inquiry, Curriculum and Multiple Ways of Knowing (NCTE, 2000).
