Dr. Karchmer-Klein began her career teaching 2nd and 5th grades before earning her reading specialist certificate and doctorate in Reading Education at Syracuse University. She taught at Virginia Commonwealth University for four years in the Graduate School of Education and currently holds the position of Associate Professor of Literacy Education in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. Dr. Karchmer-Klein teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in assessment and instruction, including a supervised reading clinic for the MEd in Reading program, Internet curriculum applications, and literacy and technology. Her research focuses on the relationship between literacy instruction, student learning, and technology with particular emphasis on the practical implications of using the Internet in K-12 classrooms. Dr. Karchmer-Klein's research has been published in journals including Reading Research Quarterly, The Reading Teacher, Reading Research and Instruction, and Action in Teacher Education.
