"It is such a pleasure to be able to share lesson plans with the ReadingWriteThink.org community, helping to build understanding of the need for struggling readers and writers to participate in differentiated, scaffolded literacy instruction."

Prior to joining the literacy faculty in the School of Teacher Education at San Diego State University in 2002 Sharan Gibson taught in K-12 schools for 26 years, serving as classroom teacher, reading specialist, and early literacy consultant.  Her research interests are focused on the structure of differentiated instruction for struggling readers and writers, and on clinical experiences that develop K-12 teachers' ability to notice students' responses during literacy instruction resulting in fine tuned instruction that is responsive and relevant to students' needs.

Dr. Gibson is also the academic advisor for the MA in Reading Education and Reading Specialist Credential programs at SDSU.  Under her leadership, SDSU's School of Teacher Education has initiated an online, summers-only Reading Certificate program at SDSU.  She is also the Director of the SDSU Reading Recovery Program and Community Reading Clinic.
